New in the SelektTM range of clinical-nutrition formulae:
Adsorption by activated charcoal
Activated charcoal is carbon that has been processed to create pores between its atoms. The processing creates a surface area of up to 1500 m2 per gramme. This surface adsorbs toxins by van der Waals forces, electrostatic interactions between pairs of fluctuating polar fields.
The adsorptive capacity of activated charcoal for the mycotoxins that may occur in feed is between 100 and 1000 times that of other adsorbents such as clays and yeasts1.
The use of activated charcoal is recommended in standard textbooks and is the subject of over 2000 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
