Increased safety is one of Stockstill's major advantages. Operators do not run the risk of being kicked or crushed - with a hot branding iron or sharp knife in hand - and animals are not likely to damage themselves.

Procedures can be undertaken more quickly, so animals do not suffer the distress of prolonged periods of mechanical restraint.

For many procedures, Stockstill replaces restraints such as cradles and ropes - which are likely to be traumatic and painful in themselves - allowing a wide range of operations to be carried out quickly and efficiently, with a minimum of distress.

In South Australia, Stockstill Limited has worked with the Government to introduce legislation under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1985, which requires all potential purchasers of devices for electro-immobilisation of animals to participate in a live demonstration of the use of the device, followed by their completion of a questionnaire on its correct usage. This is to ensure that potential users have a basic understanding of the operation and effects of the device.

In New South Wales, the Act restricts usage of such devices to veterinarians. Other States of Australia have no similar legislation in place at this time. We urge all potential purchasers to check with their Departments to determine the legisation pertinent to their own state/country.

In the UK, the stockstill is used by Veterinary surgeons in cases where there is a requirement for humane restraint of animals when carrying out certain veterinary procedures.
